YEAR 10 students Kate Sherriff and
Alice McLauchlan were selected to
play cricket for Tasmania in the Under
15 National competition in Canberra..
CHELSEA Byerley (Year 8),
has been selected at a national level
in Cheerleading to compete in New
Zealand later this year.
ISABELLA Shaw (Year 5) became
the Under 11 Girls 800m and Under
11 Girls 1500m Tasmanian State
Champion after competing in the
State Little Athletics in March.
BRYCE Lawes (Year 8) was selected
to compete in the Australian Athletics
Championships in Sydney in April.
ABI Brooks (Year 8) was selected
to represent Pony Club Australia as
part of a team of six representatives
travelling to Nanning and Haikou,
China in May.
There were some fantastic team and
individual achievements in equestrian
for the start of 2019, including:
PONY Club Tasmania State Trials
Grade 3 – Jessie Grove came 5th in
the junior category on Red Sambucca.
Bethany Hirst rode Whisky No Ice in
Grade 3 Jnr to place 12th.
Grade 2 – Harr y Furzer won the
highest placed male rider overall,
competing in Grade 2 and was
awarded the Paul Coulson trophy
for his achievement. Hannah Scott
placed 4th in Grade 2.
Grade 1 – One of our standout riders
was Bethany Hirst, who won Grade 1,
becoming one of the youngest to do
so since 1964 when the event started.
Bethany also won the U17 Members
Trophy on the weekend. Another
notable achievement was Chloe
McFarlane coming 3rd in Grade 1.
In team results Bethany Hirst was
part of the winning Northern Zone
Team for Grade 1 and winning Team
for the Dressage Trophy; Chloe
McFarlane and Hannah Scott were
members of the winning Overall
Team, which was won by TPRC; Ruby
and Bethany Hirst placed 3rd in
the Grade 3 Junior Team for Birralee
PC, Isobel Wynwood (daughter
of Nick ‘91); and Chloe McFarlane
and Bethany Hirst placed first in a
Northern Scramble team.

(Dressage, Cross Country
and Showjumping) – 1st Chloe
Mcfarlane on Spy Rebellion (1st in
CURRENT and past students
competed at the Tasmanian State
Polocrosse Finals, held on Saturday
6 April at Gowrie Park. Making the D
Grade finals, were clubs Midlands and
Kentish. The winning team, Midlands,
consisted of George Willows (Year 5)
and Alex Miller (Year 4). The C Grade
final was fought between Northern
which included Jock Johnston ( Yea r
6) and past student Abby Clements
(‘18) against Kentish, which ended up
victorious with Madeline Fenner ( Year
10) being a part of this team. Angus
Green (Year 6) was also in C Grade
playing hard all day for Midlands.
B Grade was another tough final
with players Georgia Clements ( Yea r
11) from Northern and Grace Grove
(Year 12) as well as past equestrian
captains Nic Archer (‘08) and Matilda
Scott (‘16) from Midlands battling it
out for the title, won on the night by
The last final, the A Grade final was
spectacular to watch. The teams that
played were Midlands which included
Isabelle Greenhill (Year 12) and past
student Will Jones (‘17) battling it
out against Kentish. After an intense
tiebreaker, Kentish managed to score
and take away the win by just one goal.
Some of the other individual prizes
include Grace Grove who won best
player in the B Grade final, Georgia
Clements was a part of the best
Chukka (Team of 3), George Willows
was awarded best number 2 in D
Grade and Alex Miller was awarded
the best player in the D Grade final.

represented Tasmania and Scotch
Oakburn College at the Tintern Horse
Trials and Victorian Interschools
Championships at Wandin Park
Victoria 27-28 April. The Tasmanian
team came a very strong fifth
in the International Challenge Event
THE Senior Seconds Girls - Gold team
defeated St. Patrick’s College (SPC) to win
the Seconds Girls NSATIS Premiership.
The Senior Firsts Boys team also played
SPC in the final, with a final score of SPC
60 - SOC 47. Congratulations to all the
Senior Firsts Boys for making the final.
The Senior Thirds Girls Maroon team
also made their final, defeated by
St Patrick’s College.
