TASMANIAN camera legend,
David Brill (‘63) was inducted into
the Australian Media Hall of Fame
in November. David has inspired
our students having spoken to
them about many of his amazing
adventures when he revisited the
College in 2017.
David has braved battlefields to
bring stories of those who fought and
those affected by conflict. It was as a
trainee camera operator, with ABC,
that saw David’s eerie footage of the
1967 Tasmanian bushfires broadcast
around the world.
In an interview with the ABC David
spoke about how tough the work
was but “he remained focused on the
victims of war, famine and natural
disasters, and the unsung heroes
doctors, nurses and aid workers...
That’s what kept me going, with
all the suffering in the world and
the wars, you run into individuals,
real people who are doing it not for
money, but who are doing what they
do because they care.”
ROWING and marathons were his
thing, now Ali Foot (’05) has moved
on to triathlons winning the George
Town Triathlon in October.
Higgins (’91), right, has
been appointed as the new
Assistant Commissioner at
In an article by Tasmanian

Commissioner Higgins had

THE Milestone Reunions take
place annually with past students
revisiting every 5 years after their
departure. So this year’s reunion
was for 1983, ‘88, ‘93, ‘98, ‘03, ‘08
and 2013. There was a wonderful
turnout of 90 Collegians – including
many from interstate – and more
than half took the opportunity
to tour the school with volunteer
Senior students prior to getting
down to the important business of
catching up. Our Archivist, Veronica
Macno, produced a fantastic display
of memorabilia for each attending
year group, which in turn provoked
much mirth, temple scratching and
the telling of stories that should
probably not be repeated in present
company. With minimal formalities,
many toasts, a fair swathe of
reminiscences and a surprising
number of the aforementioned
squawks, last drinks were called
a number of times before groups
headed off for more nostalgia over
Operations Support, Marine and
Rescue, Special Response and
Counter-Terrorism and Education and
EXECUTIVE Chef Craig Will (’00)
of Stillwater and Black Cow
Restaurant was named as
one of Tasmania’s top chefs.
Craig has helped to drive
the movement in Tasmania
to give locally sourced and
grown produce an identity.
GEORGIA Baker (’12) completed a
golden hat-trick at the Oceania Track
ROBBIE Arnott (’07) has just had
his first novel Flames published.
Robbie says it’s a “work of magical
realism set all across Tasmania that
blends fantasy and reality. The reader
is never quite sure what is fact, and
what is fiction.”
