During our time together one of the big questions the
children have continually inquired about has been ‘Can you see
growth?’. The children have enjoyed watching their plants grow
in Claremont Garden, they have inquired about the growth of
different animals and they have come to the realisation that
they are also growing.
From my perspective, the children have truly experienced
growth and we were so fortunate to be a part of it!

We have had discussions and investigations, problem solved
and collaborated and had the joy of learning together, working
as a team, helping each other to find what we could never do
Commencing midway through the year, and with the
support of Mrs Blair and Mrs O’Brien, the children in Early
Learning Biggs have thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity to
learn about themselves, others, and their environment.
Music with Mrs Bye is always very exciting, especially the
‘stretchy cord song’. That song and the book Press Here by
Herve Tullet always involve many squeals of excitement! The
children have enjoyed many different ‘languages’ this year, in
particular the languages of creating, painting, imagination,
inquiry, music, relationships, discovery and play. We have
enjoyed many train trips, incredible constructions and even a
The children have especially enjoyed their time outdoors.
They have really embraced every opportunity outside in our
own learning environment as well as Claremont Garden and the
rocks above the oval. Our full day outside in Claremont Garden
was a particularly memorable event for everyone!
Visits to conneXions and time with their Buddies from 5
Ucdereli were highlights. The relationships the children have
formed with their Buddies have been fantastic. The oldest
children at the Junior School and the youngest children
buddied together! What a valuable relationship for both groups
Many rich and exciting learning experiences have been
shared throughout the year in our classroom community. In
Term One we explored shapes in our environment and went to
the City Park to explore and discover shapes.
Claremont Garden has featured each term with an
exploration of the seasons and the many changes in the
environment. We saw with wonder the huge sunflowers and
fruits in summer, the changing colours of autumn, with its
seeds and berries, the starkness of the leafless trees in winter
and the blossom, magnolia trees, daffodils and flowers in
Our playground garden was a focus for our investigations
into planting and our worm farm and composting was an
ongoing feature of discovery. We harvested the pumpkins from
our Claremont garden plot and counted the seeds inside the
pumpkins, then made pumpkin soup and pumpkin scones.
We had many shared experiences with our Buddy class, Year
2 O’Loughlin. We used clay to create clay worms that were
fired, and these were given to our Dads for Father’s Day.
We enjoyed playing with big boxes that we made into a
house in our classroom. Our creativity flowed in many beautiful
